Wineglass Bay

 11th Feb 2023

We are staying just on the edge of the Freycinet National Park, and to proceed any further into the park, we need to buy a pass. The plan this morning is to do the walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout, so our first stop is at the National Park Visitors Centre to buy a pass.  The best deal for us was to buy an Annual Pass with a Seniors discount for just over $36. This gives us access to all National Parks in Tasmania, excluding Cradle Mountain (where we are not going this time).

The carpark at the entrance to the Wineglass Bay walk is very busy, but luckily we find a spot and head off on our walk. There has been quite a bit of upgrading of the path and facilities since we were last here. The walk to the lookout and back takes 1-1.5 hrs and is a moderate climb up to the lookout.

The walking track is well maintained

There is a bit of wildlife

Some impressive rock formations

and A pretty impressive view of wineglass bay when you reach the lookout

The lookout platform itself is quite and engineering feat

After arriving back in the carpark, there is one other walk we would like to do before leaving the National Park and it was on the way back to the visitors centre, The Cape Tourville Lighthouse Walk. After a fair drive up a side road to the carpark where the walk begins, we had no trouble parking and headed of for an easy and shorter walk than the previous one.

The scenery is quite stunning.

Looking South you can see the entrance to Wineglass Bay

The Nuggets are two islands off the cape which is haven for bird life

The scenery was at least as good as on the Wineglass Bay Lookout walk and it was a lot easier going.

Having done our sightseeing for the morning we drove back to Coles Bay and had lunch at anice little Cafe in the main are called Geographe Cafe. Good food and a great location.

After lunch we went back to the cabin and put our feet up. We purchased some gourmet sausages whilst we were in town and cooked dinner at "home"
