Barnbougle Dunes and The Lost Farm

 5th Feb 2023

For Breakfast, we wandered down the road to a small cafe we discovered during our last trip down five years ago, the Laneway Cafe. Food was still great and servings generous.

we are not in a great hurry this morning so went for a walk along the waterfront before heading back to our room to pack.

This morning belies the horrors of yesterday, with incredibly calm conditions and glassy water.

                                                 The entrance to Devonport Harbour

Our destination today is one of the best golf courses in Australia where we intend to spend 2 days and play both of the outstanding golf courses there.

It is about a 2 hour drive from Devonport through a number of small towns crossing the Tamar over the Batman Bridge.

Along the way we travelled through Exeter and the Sunday market was in full swing, so we decided to stop and check it out.

Good to see dagwood dogs and chicko rolls are still crowd pleasers in Tassie.

A detour to the Lavender Farm in Bridstowe seemed a good idea along the way, although flowering season appears to be over, although the on site shop and displays had some interesting items.

We arrived in Bridport in time for lunch and dined at the Bridport Bunker Club. It is supposed the best place in Bridport to have lunch and we were not disappointed. Quite a good feed for such a small country town.

Asian Style Squid was delicious

The drive to Barnbougle Dunes is only about 10 mins from here, so we have a bit of a walk around Bridport, before heading off to our accommodation for the next few days.

Our accommodation is at the Lost Farm which is a newer course about 4 km from the Dunes course but all on the same site. The "motel units" overlook the course and are very roomy. Other facilities at the Lost Fram include an upmarket restaurant overlooking to Bass Strait, a pub style bar serving pizzas, a spa etc.

Dinner tonight was at the restaurant at the Lost Farm, which fortunately we had made a booking for. It was very busy, mainly with very large groups of men on golfing holidays. The food was good and the view out over the Strait an added bonus. Jeraboams of red wine were flowing at one of the mens tables, and at around $400 a bottle it seemed a bargain, compared to the single bottle prices.

Tomorrow morning we are booked to plat the Lost Farm course which is an unusual 20 holes.
